Pity the Poor Salmon

According to an Indian Country Today piece:
This season the pressure is again on the Pacific salmon. The ''dry-out'' of the salmon has begun in earnest, as the Bush administration has opted to drop protection from four-fifths of protected rivers, judged crucial to the recovery of salmon and steelhead, from Southern California to the Canadian border.
The article is especially harsh. According to it, President Bush does not "even care what happens to any of the natural wonders of Indian country's remarkable landscape."

'T is too bad for the salmon that JF Kerry was not elected. According to an article from February 22, found in the Idaho Statesman:
Sen. John Kerry would appoint a salmon czar who would answer directly to him and his vice president if he´s elected president.
Perhaps the salmon czar would have taken part in a President JF Kerry's morning intel briefings.
