The World Hasn't Ended

The Berkshire Eagle out of Massachusetts opined Saturday that the their liberal readers need not worry, their world did not end with the reelection of President Bush:
Many denizens of deep blue Western Massachusetts were shocked and upset last week, and there were many reckless predictions that the End was Nigh. It isn't. Our state still elects its own leaders, makes its own laws and takes care of its own people. Even if Roe v. Wade is overturned by the Supreme Court, all that will do is return that decision to the states.
Right. So why the histrionics?

And, the say, the rubes are, believe it or not, okay people:
Thinking of our fellow countrymen as ignorant and hateful is self-deceiving, and it will not help us understand why the Democrats lost this election. Fifty nine million Americans voted for Mr. Bush and not all of them did so because they were scared or duped or pandered to. They did it because they agree with his agenda and his policies, and because they trust him and believe his direction is the right one. The vast majority of good people in the red states are conservative, and yes they are religious, but they're not zealots. They want the same things we do: Peace and prosperity. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Which is gracious enough.

There may not be light at the end of the rainbow for them, but they can still complain in freedom.
