  • Washington Memo at the New York Times seems to be a bit miffed that Don Rumsfeld isn't taking off after one term. They even quote a nameless Republican comparing the Defense Secretary to… Bill Clinton: "If Clinton is the most skillful politician of our age, Rumsfeld is the most skillful bureaucrat."

  • It looks like incumbent San Diego Mayor Dick Murphy (R) has managed to squeak in a victory over environmental extremist and write-in candidate Donna Fye, a Democrat. There is a slight dispute to be settled in court, however: do people voting for a write-in candidate have to darken the oval next to the write-in space. The law says yes, but I suppose one could argue that darkening ovals violates one of the central tenets of the druidic environmentalist cult.

  • Suha Arafat jetted home to Paris to seize her dead husband's medical records; however ,the French defense ministry seems to think Arafat's nephew should have them. Nasser al-Kidwa, the nephew, is the terrorist group P.L.O.'s envoy to the United Nations.

Some want to prove a wild-eyed, disheveled notion that Arafat was poisoned to death by the Israeli government.
