Richard Burr vrs. Erskine Bowles

Representative Richard Burr (R-North Carolina) is running against former Clinton chief of staff Erskine Bowles, and the race is within the margin. It had been a 10 point Bowles lead, but that was bound to dissipate. Part of Burr's strategy is to link Bowles to his former boss:
"Even though Bowles was not associated with the scandals in any way, I think he's still associated with a very unpopular figure," he [Peace College professor David McLennan] said.
Bowles was unsuccessful in his 2002 run against Elizabeth Dole, despite all but denying that he had ever met Clinton.

Burr had considered a run for Jesse Helms's old seat, now held by Dole, but is said to have been talked out of it by party insiders who wanted Dole for the Helms seat and Burr for Edwards's
