Hawaii as a swing State

AP says so; so did I when discussing States which Gore won in 2000 and the President could possibly win. Hawaii's governor, Linda Lingle has her GOP card, and they Republicans put up a good fight in their Congressional race to replace the deceased Democrat Patsy Mink. It was 20 points for Gore back then, and it's said to be a toss-up now.

Hawaii was twice carried by a Republican Presidential candidate: Nixon in '72 and Reagan in '84. Both incumbents and both facing stronger opponents than is the current President: George McGovern and Fritz Mondale.
