Elizabeth Edwards: "Cheney is ashamed!"
Last night, JF Kerry dragged Mary Cheney into his debate by saying that she was a lesbian and that's just how she was. Mary's mother Lynne defended her daughter by calling Kerry's use of her name "a cheap and tawdry political trick" and pointing out that Kerry "is not a good man."
John Edwards's wife Elizabeth has chimed in with her own assessment of Mary Cheney's mother, the wife of the Vice President:
She's overreacted to this and treated it as if it's shameful to have this discussion. I think that's a very sad state of affairs. ... I think that it indicates a certain degree of shame with respect to her daughter's sexual preferences. ... It makes me really sad that that's Lynne's response.''That is more base than even Kerry's reference, and it is indicative that the Kerry campaign will do or say whatever. We've dredged the pond and found the scum too thick to float.
By referring to the younger Cheney's sexual orientation as a "preference," Mrs. Edwards reveals that she believes a person's sexual orientation is a choice. This is a view rejected by both President Bush and JF Kerry.
